Letters I should have written...
Dear Reader
Welcome to my blog. All the letters that could have been published by all papers, that didn’t.
Lewis Carroll wrote, ’The proper definition of a man is an animal that writes letters’.
While Carroll eloquently chronicled the absurdities of life, and absurdities you may find here in abundance, If you are expecting looking glass fluency, rhetoric and elegance please look elsewhere, it will be better for both of us. There are many correspondants, whose ink will live longer on their pages than this blog but here lies the chance to chronicle my life’s diet of ridiculousness.
“To write a letter is to send a message to the future; to speak of the present with an addressee who is not there” Ricardo Piglia,
Who am I addressing in these letters. Principally the odd editorial team, my family and me.
The former so they can consider voicing another’s opinion and the latter out of consideration, so they can avoid hearing the voice of yet another of those opinions. However, in reality I am addressing my future self, somehow, If it’s not written, it doesn’t exist, ever feel like that? Then again who hasn’t written an email and dearly wished it didn’t exist.
If you agree or disagree with the letters but they make you think then I think I will be happy.
If they make you recall past absurdity, then we can both be happy reliving life’s ridiculousness.
If you happen to be my old English teacher, Ms Gordon, I am still, really, really sorry about the grammar but on the plus side I did finish lord of the flies.
Yours in sincerity
Sherpa Brooks
